~Dec.24 - A Christmas with Only Two People~

Ryouta arrives in a Santa suit.

When Takuto opens the door, Ryouta's standing there in a Santa suit holding a present. Takuto's at a loss for words. Ryouta tells him about the cake sales. Takuto berates him for walking around outside in that thing. Ryouta tells him it's not weird sine they're having a Christmas party with only the two of them. Takuto's speechless. Ryouta smiles and reminds him about the cake, and the chicken he bought. Ryouta takes his boots off and asks where the champagne is. Takuto's tells him it's in the fridge. The chicken just needs to be heated up so they can start the party immediately.

This is the second Christmas they've lived together for. Last year Ryouta had to work, so this year he scheduled his shifts so he could take tonight off.

'Christmas--the holy night when god was born in this world. I did not like it so much in reality on such cheerful a night. The reason is that grandmother was lost at Christmas ten years ago. Of course, Ryouta doesn't know that.'

He hasn't cared to explain because Ryouta would be sad.

The Cake

They unwrap the present to find the weirdest looking cake. It's a 30cm tall devil's food cake shaped like a Christmas tree. Takuto mumbles that he doesn't see how the two of them can eat all of it. When Ryouta asks him what he said, he says it was nothing. Ryouta calls him on it. Takuto still tells him it's nothing. Ryouta doesn't believe him and makes the -.- face. Takuto asks him what's wrong. Takuto finally explains but Ryouta's quite confident that he can eat it. Takuto says something about not having parents and Ryouta assumes then that Takuto's are gone. Instead of answering, Takuto takes out the kitchen knife and hands it to Ryouta.

Ryouta goes into the other room to wait for dinner. Takuto thinks about his parents when they were still alive while the chicken is warmed up. He remembers his mother's smile, then remembers the snow covered coffins his parents are in. The beep of the oven draws him out of his thoughts. He wonders if he's recalling all of this because it's Christmas...and then he burns his finger on the hot plate. He takes the food into the room where Ryouta is then goes back for the champagne.

Ryouta: "Yay! Cake. Chicken. Champagne!"

They decide to have a toast. Takuto opens the bottle and Ryouta is amazed at how much he seems like a professional bartender. Takuto laughs and pours their glasses. After they toast, Ryouta drinks it "as if it were juice"...but Ryouta's a lightweight. Takuto tells him to slow down. They go back to the cake. Takuto tells him he can eat the decorations. Ryouta gets really excited about that and Takuto questions just how bad his sweet tooth is.

Takuto thinks about Ryouta's family (the youngest child of five--two brothers and two sisters). One of his brothers is a lawyer for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Ryouta's the only one who doesn't have a real job. Takuto likes to play the piano and he doesn't wish to become a professional. Takuto ends the conversation by telling him to cut the cake.

Ryouta eating--cake in one hand, chicken in the other

Takuto mentions that during winter break he's going to be working at the store still. Ryouta asks what time the shift ends--2am. Ryouta asks if it's safe and Takuto says there will be another woman there. Ryouta doesn't like that it's a woman.

Finding him like that several nights ago was unexpected. Ryouta whispers that he's liked Takuto for a long time.

Cake

Takuto pretends like he didn't just remember that and tries not to let Ryouta notice. Ryouta's still talking about the late shift. Takuto says something a little angry- and Ryouta snaps back at him (something about the room being empty when he comes home). Takuto's feelings are hurt and thinks about it (the translation for this part is really butchered). They go back to eating.

Ryouta asks him why he has to work. Takuto tells him they're short on people. The girl that usually works there suddenly stopped showing up. Ryouta gets worried and suggests maybe she's sick. Takuto responds, then why didn't she call? The Manager thinks they should keep the store open because more people come to buy bouquets between Christmas and Valentine's Day.

Ryouta asks Takuto if he liked the girl. Takuto tells him to stop suspecting things. He's just worried. Their mini-quarrel is interrupted by the music on the TV. Shortly after, Ryouta asks him if at the end of winter break his shift will return to normal. Takuto says he wants to make as much money as possible to pay for school and the band expenses, but that's not the whole truth. Takuto wonders how many secrets he's keeping from Ryouta, and that he has to take care of the family property (his parents and grandmother are dead so he was left with his father-in-law).

Ryouta was the last life rope for me.

'The spectacle that I saw at that time is surely not a reality. That was only a dream.'

Takuto's still in denial--that Ryouta's just a friend. Ryouta asks him he can visit him at the shop when he gets off from work. Takuto tells him it's okay. He hopes that Ryouta will stay a friend.
